The National Weather Service in Huntsville is monitoring a threat of severe storms across the Shoals over the weekend, with the greatest possibility before 5 o’clock Sunday morning. Weather officials say Lauderdale, Colbert, Lawrence, and Franklin Counties are the most likely to see large hail and damaging winds up to 70 miles an hour. At this time, officials say there is also a threat for tornadoes early Sunday morning, with a possibility of another round of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon.
You are encouraged to take severe weather preparedness steps before going to bed Saturday night. Add these steps to your normal weather plan so you’re not caught off guard:
- Turn your weather radio to alert mode so it would wake you up in case of severe weather.
- Make sure you have a flashlight, radio, and fresh batteries for both.
- Put a change of clothes, a jacket, and a pair of sturdy shoes in your shelter location, in case you don’t have time to change out of your pajamas!
Shoals News will continue monitoring weather reports and keep you up to date.
