Florence Mayor Steve Holt’s office says to expect a large number of military vehicles in the Shoals beginning Monday. An Alabama National Guard unit from Montgomery will be coming to town for Hazmat training with local emergency responders.
The Alabama National Guard’s 46th Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Unit will host the training that begins Monday. City officials say the Florence Fire & Rescue Team and Muscle Shoals Fire Department will be participating in the training and hands-on drills to equip them to better respond to Hazardous Materials situations. The training will take place at the Muscle Shoals Fire Academy.
Florence Fire Chief Jeff Perkins said he appreciates the guard unit offering the opportunity to train with its soldiers. “Anything can happen, and we need to be ready and available.”
