Funeral arrangements have been announced for longtime Shoals area guitarist and producer Jimmy Johnson, who passed away September 5th at the age of 76.
Visitation will be Monday, September 9th from 10am to 1pm at First Baptist Church, Sheffield. The funeral service will follow at 1 pm. Will McFarlane will officiate. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Sheffield.
Most noted for being a member of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, Johnson became the first employee of Rick Hall’s FAME Studios in the early 60’s, later adding his guitar to countless Muscle Shoals hits. He worked as a recording engineer and producer on many other sessions, before co-founding Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in 1969.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Ray Johnson III, Trent Tidwell, Billy Lawson, Steve Melton, Mark Willcutt, Brad Viall, Jackson Nance and Scott Campbell. Fellow MSRS members David Hood and Roger Hawkins will be among those serving as honorary pallbearers.
